Brenden Aaronson’s 8.15 and 0.36 stats should convince Leeds to finalise agreement

Brenden Aaronson is set to enter contract talks with Leeds United this summer, with his current deal due to expire next year.

The midfielder cost the Whites around ยฃ25million when they signed him from RB Salzburg in 2022, and he had yet to prove his ability to contribute in the Premier League before this campaign.

Poor performances saw Aaronson loaned by Leeds to Union Berlin for the 2023-24 season, and he showed some signs of promise there.

On his return, the United States international scored nine goals in the Championship and featured in every single league game as Daniel Farkeโ€™s team lifted the title.

Leeds transfer chiefs are now attempting to get the 25-year-old down to a new contract after another positive season.

The stats behind Brenden Aaronsonโ€™s season

Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Leeds want Aaronson to sign a new contract, with decision-makers hoping to avoid his exit on a free transfer.

The American will be able to discuss pre-contract agreements in the January transfer window, and the Whites will want to at least get money back on their investment.

But it is more likely that Farke is keen to keep hold of Aaronson next season, considering the reliable player he has grown into.

There were plenty of question marks surrounding the 25-year-old in previous years, as he seemed to coast through games with little effect.

This season, however, he has often been the man to make something happen for Leeds, and he has worked tirelessly.

Aaronson makes 8.15 defensive contributions per game, including 4.91 recoveries. He wins 5.79 duels, and wins 40.3 per cent of every one he contests.

But that is not all. The 25-year-old has averaged 0.36 big chances created every game this season, and has taken 1.72 shots.

World Cup set to be key for Aaronsonโ€™s future

Aaronson is a prominent figure in Mauricio Pochettinoโ€™s United States team, representing one of the host nations at the World Cup this summer.

The midfielder will dream of playing a leading role in a historic tournament for the Americans, who hope to get further than they ever have.

Should dreams come true, the 25-year-old will be attracting some serious attention ahead of the summer transfer window.

If Leeds are wise, they will attempt to agree a contract with Aaronson before the tournament. Should that be feasible, however, is another matter.
