Alan Hutton claims Celtic have finally found a replacement for former Parkhead favourite Patrick Roberts in the shape of loan signing Mohamed Elyounoussi.
The former Aston Villa and Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the two wingers are similar in their ability to both create and score goals from out wide and get fans out of their seats.
Roberts spent two season on loan at Celtic from Manchester City between 2016 and 2018, netting 18 goals and contributing 26 assists in his 78 appearances for the Glasgow giants.
With Elyounoussi enjoying a bright start to life on loan in Scotland, scoring seven times in his opening 10 appearances, Hutton says that he is another game-changing talent cut from the same cloth as the current Norwich loanee.
Asked if the Roberts void had finally been filled, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, it’s a really good comparison. Both players are that type to get bums off the seats and lift the crowd.
“They can both bring something a little bit different. He (Elyounoussi) is doing brilliant, as a Rangers guy, sometimes I take the Rangers glasses off, he’s been brilliant for them.
“He’s in a great place at the moment and doing well for Celtic.”
Neither Elyounoussi nor Roberts have found their feet in the Premier League, the former failing to score or assist in his 19 appearances for parent club Southampton.
Meanwhile, the English winger has just three games under his belt for Manchester City’s senior side and four for current loan club Norwich.
