'Brilliant' - Everton fans react on Twitter as Toffees ban The Sun

By Matt Bullin

Everton fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at the news that Everton have banned The Sun newspaper from all areas of the club.

The ban means Sun reporters will not be able to attend matches at Goodison Park or press conferences at Finch Farm.

The ban comes on the 28th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and follows Liverpool FC’s banning of The Sun earlier this year.

Everton announced the news via their official Twitter feed today, releasing a club statement.

The ban comes after The Sun suspended Kelvin Mackenzie yesterday after an article he wrote compared Everton’s Ross Barkley, whose grandfather was born in Nigeria, to a gorilla.

The article, which has since been taken off The Sun’s website, claimed Barkley is ‘one of our dimmest footballers’ and called the 23-year-old ‘thick.’

It also referred to the people of Liverpool as ‘drug dealers’ and Merseyside Police are investigating whether his comments constitute as ‘racial hate crime.’

Everton fans reacted very positively to the news on Twitter.

Here is a selection of their Tweets.
