'Brilliant' - Mills reacts to reported Newcastle approach for 'Incredibly athletic' PL star
Danny Mills says that Brighton striker Glenn Murray could be a “brilliant” signing for Newcastle United if they can guarantee him game time.
The former Leeds and England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the Seagulls veteran is a proven goalscorer who most teams would love to have at their disposal.
The Daily Mail report that the Magpies have made an approach about signing the 36-year-old this month to help with their woes in front of goal this season.
Suggesting that Steve Bruce might have to do some convincing to get the long-serving Brighton man to swap the south coast for the north east, Mills says Murray would be a great addition to the squad.
Mills told Football Insider: “It’s a long way for Glenn to go, the weather’s a bit different from what it is in Brighton in Newcastle, that’s for sure.
“He’s a goalscorer, I interviewed him pitchside last season after one of the games and he’s incredibly athletic, looks after himself incredibly well, in and around the box he’s brilliant.

“If you can create chances for him and get him in there then yes, why would you not buy a striker of that ilk or get him. Whether he would go to Newcastle, I don’t know. Unless he’s going to start and play regular football, that might be the carrot he needs.
“I can’t see him going up to Newcastle to sit on the bench.”
Murray has 36 goals in 138 Premier League appearances under his belt but has struggled to find the back of the net this season.
He has netted just once, against Bristol Rovers in the League Cup, with no goals or assists in his 13 top-flight outings.
