Burnley next manager: Steve Cooper odds crash for potential summer appointment
Burnley seem increasingly likely to appoint Championship specialist Steve Cooper as their manager for the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
One bookmaker has slashed the odds of a move to Turf Moor down to 2/1, making him the second favourite for the role.
The 46-year-old is currently out of work after he left Danish side Brondby at the end of the 2025-26 season.
Burnley are yet to appoint a manager since the departure of Scott Parker in the last campaign, despite the new season now being just over a month away.
The Claret had previously look set to appoint Craig Bellamy, before talks collapsed in late June.
Now, Cooper could make a return to the Championship after previously overseeing plenty of success in the division.
Steve Cooper is a Championship specialist
Cooper impressed heavily the last time he was in the second tier.
The manager took over Nottingham Forest in September 2021 when the club was at the foot of the division and managed to guide them to an unexpected promotion.
Previously, he also found success at Swansea City, guiding the club into the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, losing to Brentford in the final in 2021.
Since then, he has had difficult spells at Leicester City and Brondby, although he did have the former club outside of the Premier League relegation zone before he was sacked.
Nevertheless, his achievements in the Championship will no doubt attract Burnley’s interest as they look to quickly return to the Premier League.
Who else is linked with the Burnley job?
The current favourite to land the managerial job at Turf Moor is Sebastien Pocognoli at 1/2.
The 38-year-old is also a free agent after he was sacked by Monaco in June. However, he has had previous success in Belgium and guided Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to the top-flight title in 2025.
Following this, Ange Postecoglou, Robin van Persie and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer are all still in the running at 8/1.
Each one is currently unemployed after leaving their former clubs at some point during the 2025-26 campaign.
However, it remains to be seen who Burnley will look to appoint this summer in what is set to be a massive campaign for the club as they chase yet another promotion.
