Burnley next manager: Ange Postecoglou odds tumble after Rob Edwards snub
Ange Postecoglou has emerged as a shock outsider to become the next Burnley manager.
The Clarets suffered another setback in their hunt for Scott Parker’s successor late last week when reports emerged that Rob Edwards had turned down an approach.
With the start of the 2026-27 campaign now just over a month away, Burnley are without a manager.
Now, one UK bookmaker believes Postecoglou is increasingly likely to take the role, with his odds falling to 12/1.
The 60-year-old has been out of work since he was dismissed at Nottingham Forest in October.
Previously, the Australian had overseen successful spells at the likes of Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur, winning the Europa League title at the latter.
Ange Postecoglou emerges as outsider for Burnley job
Despite Postecoglou’s recent poor record in management, a move to Turf Moor would no doubt be a shock.
Just over a year ago, the coach lifted the Europa League title with Spurs, ending their horrific trophy drought.
Before that, he oversaw a new golden period with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, ensuring they remained the dominant team in Scotland.
While his time at Nottingham Forest was dreadful, with the manager leaving the City Ground with no wins in eight matches, his reputation is still high.
Therefore, if Burnley were to tempt the Aussie into the club, it would be considered by many to be a bit of a coup.
This is especially true when considering that multiple of their previous manager targets have fallen through, with Alex Crook reporting the recent failure to bring in Edwards.
Who else is linked with the Burnley job?
As it stands, Steve Cooper is the favourite to bag the Burnley job at 6/4.
The former Forest manager left Danish side Brondby this summer, and has had previous success in the Championship.
Robin van Persie and Kasper Hjulmand are also considered in the race at 4/1 and 5/1.
Bo Henriksen is also yet to be ruled out at 6/1 after he left Mainz 05 in December.
Another potential outsider is considered to be Steven Gerrard at 10/1. The Liverpool legend was heavily linked with the role just after Parker’s dismissal at the end of last season, and may now re-enter the race for the job.
