Rob Edwards has emerged as the odds-on favourite for the Burnley manager job ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The former Wales international was only sacked by Wolverhampton Wanderers just over two weeks ago after failing to guide them to Premier League safety.

Craig Bellamy had looked set to become the new Burnley manager until talks with the Wales National Team boss collapsed earlier this week.

One bookmaker has slashed the odds of Edwards taking charge down to 1/2, making him the odds-on favourite for the role.

The 43-year-old has taken charge of numerous Championship sides over the years, and famously led Luton Town to the Premier League back in 2023.

Edwards may now succeed Scott Parker after his dismissal at Turf Moor towards the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Rob Edwards is a Championship specialist

Edwards’ sacking at Wolves in mid-June came as a shock to many in the EFL.

The former Aston Villa man has achieved a reputation of being a Championship specialist in recent years, and it was thought that the Old Gold side made the appointment with a return to the second tier in mind.

After a short stint at Watford, that last just 11 matches, he was able to guide Luton Town to the Premier League via the playoffs, beating Coventry City on penalties in the final.

While his return to the Championship with the Hatters was less successful, he was appointed as Middlesbrough’s manager in 2025 and heavily impressed.

Edwards won seven of his 15 matches in charge and would depart Boro in second place to take the Wolves job.

Therefore, with Burnley eyeing an instant return to the Premier League, these stats are likely to be very encouraging to their hierarchy.

Who else is in the mix for the Burnley job?

Following Edwards, Robin van Persie and Steve Cooper are the second favourites for the job at 5/1.

Van Persie left his role at Feyenoord at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, while Cooper also departed from Brondby this summer.

Former Bayer Leverkusen manager Kasper Hjulmand is also in the mix at 6/1, while Bo Henriksen is considered an outsider at 10/1.

However, it remains to be seen who Burnley will appoint this summer as they aim to quickly return to the Premier League.
