Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Calvin Bassey to quit Rangers and sign a double-your-money deal with Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa's record Premier League goalscorer insisted Rangers will not be able to compete with Premier League clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

The versatile defender, who is under contract until the summer of 2024, has attracted interest from Premier League clubs after his starring role in Rangers' run to the Europa League final.

The Daily Record reported on Saturday (21 May) that Aston Villa were set to watch Bassey in the Scottish Cup final win over Hearts as they consider a move.

Asked whether Bassey will sign a new Rangers contract, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "I don't think he will, to be honest.

"The problem with Rangers and Celtic is they can't pay the money that teams in the Premier League can. Goldson's trying to move for financial reasons.

"What can Rangers offer Bassey? That's the issue. He could probably get double the money at Aston Villa.

"I'm sure he would be reluctant to sign a new contract and see what is out there for him, to be honest.

"There will be clubs out there for him, 1000 per cent. He's quick, calm on the ball, strong and good in the air.

"I'd take him at Aston Villa tomorrow. A lot of clubs in the Premier League will look at him.

"I'm surrpsied that Leicester let him go, to be honest. That's very strange."
