Calvin Ramsay may leave Liverpool in 2023 after confirmed news - pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Calvin Ramsay to leave Liverpool on loan in January 2023.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Ramsay will struggle to get game time ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold at the beginning of the 2022-23 season.

Liverpool confirmed on Sunday (19 June) that the right-back, who turns 19 at the end of the month, had moved to Anfield from Aberdeen on a long-term contract.

He enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021-22 as he was named the Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s Young Player of the Year and was also shortlisted for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

“It’s quite strange, for me,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You’ve seen right-backs [like] Neco Williams not get the game time and go out on loan.

“Will it be a case of Ramsay going out on loan? Because Trent Alexander-Arnold rarely gets injured and plays every game.

“Do you want to just be playing in the Carabao Cup? Is that enough?

“It’s hard to turn down that big move but maybe after six months without playing he might be looking for a loan move in January to play some football.

“Maybe Liverpool just see him as one for the future. They want to get their hands on him and then maybe think ‘Do you know what? We will loan him out’.”

Ramsay made 39 appearances, scoring once and providing nine assists, for Aberdeen before his move to Liverpool.

He also has three Scotland Under-21 caps to his name after making his debut last September (2021).
