Campbell backs Aston Villa star Mings '100%' after abhorrent development

Kevin Campbell has backed Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings after he called out home secretary Priti Patel for her stance on racism.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 28-year-old was “100 per cent” right to criticise the government for their position on the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were subjected to abhorrent racial abuse after they missed penalties in the Euro final on Sunday.

Priti Patel said she was “disgusted” by the online abuse of the England trio on her personal Twitter account.

Mings later called out the home secretary for her comments after she accused players of playing ‘gesture politics’ when speaking about the taking of the knee in an interview with GB News in June.

When asked by Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “Mings is spot on.

“We have talked about Black Lives Matter and about taking the knee and the narrative about standing against racism. Well, there it all is in one go. Everybody can see it now.

“I can guarantee, that if England had won that game we would not have seen any derogatory remarks and the politicians would have been lauding it. It is the same politicians who were against the knee.

“Tyrone Mings is spot on to call out Boris Johnson and Priti Patel, 100 per cent.”
