Campbell backs Nelson exit after Romano's Arsenal reveal

Kevin Campbell has claimed Reiss Nelson “needs to leave” Arsenal to realise his potential.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said the 21-year-old “has all of the tools and attributes to be a top player” but needs game time.

Nelson has just one year to run on his contract at the Emirates.

According to Fabrizio Romano (July 1st), the London club have offered the forward a new three-year deal that he is yet to accept.

Olympiacos and three English clubs are said to have contacted the player’s representatives regarding a potential move.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Nelson’s future, Campbell said:

“I think this is a really important time for Reiss Nelson. He has all of the tools and all of the attributes to be a top player but he needs game time. Whether it is at Arsenal or elsewhere he needs to play.

“He might have to drop down to the Championship to do it but he needs to go and learn.

“You can have all of the skills, talent and ability but you need to be productive. As soon as he gets productivity into his game he can be an asset for this club.

“Let’s be honest though, to realise that potential he needs to leave Arsenal next season.”

Nelson has made 46 appearances for the Gunners since his debut in 2017.

He contributed one goal and one assist in nine games last season.
