Eddie Nketiah should be loaned out by Arsenal in January after revealing how much he learned during his time at Leeds United.
That is according to former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 21-year-old forward.
Mikel Arteta revealed at his media conference on Friday that Nketiah is “knocking on the door every day” and is a contender to start for Arsenal against his former club at Elland Road tomorrow.
In an interview with Alan Shearer in the Athletic published on Saturday, the player himself spoke glowingly of his half-season on loan at Leeds last term.
He surprisingly revealed he had a “wonderful time” at the-then Championship team despite being a sub most of the time and he returned to “to Arsenal the fittest I’ve ever been and that shows in the way Leeds play”.
Campbell is a big fan of Nketiah but believes he needs a season being a regular Premier League starter to reach his potential.
He believes that would best be achieved by another loan.
”Nketiah has a knack for goals but I think Nketiah needs to go out on loan for another season, playing back-to- back games to get that confidence in his own body,” Campbell told Football Insider.
“Coming off the bench and playing sparingly is okay but there is nothing better than getting a run of starts to understand that you can do it at the top level.
“You have got to go through the tough parts. You need to get kicked, feel the pain and the soreness. That is what he needs to do.”
Nketiah has made 14 appearances for Arsenal this season and clocked up 625 minutes of action in all competitions.
But he has started just one Premier League match and his haul includes three goals, one apiece in the league, EFL Cup and Europa League.
