Campbell can't believe 'hogwash' Conte is spouting at Tottenham
Antonio Conte did not join Tottenham in the summer because Daniel Levy refused to give the Italian what he desired.
That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Conte’s supposed reasoning for joining the London club earlier.
Tottenham appointed the 52-year-old on an 18-month contract on Tuesday following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Conte was in talks over succeeding Jose Mourinho in the summer only for negotiations to collapse.
Speaking to club media after his arrival, Conte revealed his emotional attachment to his previous club Inter Milan was the reason why an agreement was not reached.
Campbell has dismissed the ex-Chelsea and Juventus manager’s comments as “hogwash”.

“That old flannel, come on Antonio,” he told Football Insider.
“I know he has to try and say the right things but come on, that‘s a load of hogwash. That is hogwash.
“The reason he didn’t come in the summer is because Levy wouldn’t give him the control or the funds that he believed he needed to succeed at Spurs. It will be interesting to see now how much he is given.”
Speaking to club media, Conte said: “There was a call from Tottenham this summer and I was very clear with Tottenham because I had just finished with Inter, two important seasons, two very tough seasons and, honestly, it wasn’t the right time to start again another experience…
“For this reason, I tell them, ‘thanks, because you thought of me, but I prefer to wait and enjoy time with my family’.
