Campbell: 'I know Souttar really well' and this is how he'll react to Aston Villa interest

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Stoke City defender Harry Souttar amid interest from Aston Villa in his signature.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker revealed he knows the 22-year-old “really well” through his son Tyrese Campbell.

As this site revealed on October 7th, Villa have set their sights on the centre-half ahead of the January window.

Souttar has started 11 times for the Potters this season and his performances have helped them climb to fourth in the Championship.

He has four years remaining on his contract at the bet365 Stadium.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Souttar’s future, Campbell said: “Stoke have got a great chance of going up.

“I know Harry Souttar really well because of course he plays with my son there. I think Harry would be happy to stay, 100 per cent he would be.

“It does not do him any harm having the likes of Aston Villa interested in him though. He’s a young player doing the business.

“If you are a top Championship club who are battling for promotion you expect the top-flight clubs to be looking. I’d have been surprised if Premier League clubs weren’t watching him. He’s made a huge difference at the back for Stoke.

“Harry is a very good young player with a big future ahead of him.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed clubs are queuing up to sign an ‘amazing’ Aston Villa player in January and deal will be done.
