Campbell in awe of 'wonderful' Locatelli amid Arsenal reported offer update

Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to splash the cash on Manuel Locatelli and Ruben Neves this summer to bolster their midfield.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said Mikel Arteta needs to sign at least three midfielders in this transfer window with Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos returning to Real Madrid and Granit Xhaka likely to join AS Roma.

Locatelli, 23, starred for Italy on Wednesday night, with two goals in a 3-0 victory over Switzerland at the Euros.

Italian outlet Gazzetta reported on 14 June that Arsenal are readying an offer for the Sassuolo midfielder.

According to the Telegraph (7 June), Arsenal are also poised to make an opening offer for Ruben Neves.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the potential arrival of the midfield duo, Campbell said: “I would love Locatelli and Neves.

“Ceballos has gone back to Real Madrid, as has Odegaard and Granit Xhaka looks nailed on to join Roma so we need a couple of quality additions in that area. We have got to ramp it up.

“When you think about it we’ve pretty much lost three midfielders so we need at least another three to come in.

“Locatelli is a wonderful player and I also like Neves. It is a case of go and get them. If we don’t somebody else will because they’re both top class players.”
