Campbell issues two-word verdict on Arsenal signing Mitchell after Athletic update

Kevin Campbell has claimed there is “no chance” of Arsenal signing Tyrick Mitchell from Crystal Palace this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said the 21-year-old will not want to move to the Emirates due to concerns over a lack of game time.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are in the market for a left-back this summer and have an interest in Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell and Hibernian’s Josh Doig.

Mikel Arteta recognises that he needs cover for Kieran Tierney next season with the Scotland international having missed large periods of the 2020-21 campaign through injury.

Mitchell made 20 appearances for the Eagles last season, 19 of which came in the Premier League.

He was rewarded with a new deal in April and that contract runs until the summer of 2025.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the potential signing of Mitchell, Campbell said: “It’s definitely a position that needs to be addressed.

“I think Mitchell would be a capable deputy for Kieran Tierney next season but I just do not see that happening.

“He has just signed a new long-term contract at Palace. I cannot see that happening, no chance.

“He will want not want to be second choice. He looks happy at Palace and he is playing every week. Why would he want to leave to sit on the bench at Arsenal?”
