Campbell rages at Aubameyang and Lacazette after what they have done to Arsenal youngsters
Kevin Campbell has slammed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette for hanging their Arsenal teammates out to dry.
The Gunners icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted after the controversy surrounding their absences against Brentford.
Just hours before Friday’s game, Arsenal tweeted that Aubameyang and Lacazette would miss the game through illness.
The Gunners went on to lose the game 2-0 and looked toothless up-front.
Folarin Balogun and Gabriel Martinelli, both 20, were chosen to start in their senior teammates’ stead but had little impact on the game.
Neither player made it past the 70th minute as they were replaced by Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka respectively.

Campbell told this site on Tuesday (17th July) that “something is going on” behind the scenes at Arsenal regarding Aubameyang and Lacazette’s mystery illness.
The former hitman admits he felt sorry for the Gunners youngsters after being hung out to dry by the senior duo.
“Them missing out thrust two players into the spotlight,” Campbell told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I know Martinelli has played before but he’s just come back from the Olympics. He’s not exactly a starter at Arsenal.
“Then Balogun, who’s still finding his feet, comes in. I felt so sorry for them. That’s not on.
“I felt sorry for Smith-Rowe as well because these young players need the help of an Aubameyang or a Lacazette.
“Whether they are in form or not, they are the players Brentford need to respect.
“Arsenal could have been playing until now and not scored.”
Arsenal were firmly on the back foot against Brentford as they lost their opening game of the season.
The Gunners have the chance to make amends for the result against Chelsea next weekend.
