Campbell: Rangers could beat Leeds to 'masterstroke' Moreno signing after update

Santiago Moreno could be a “masterstroke signing” for Rangers given what he would bring both on and off the field, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 21-year-old could be a key ally to star striker Alfredo Morelos in the changing room while also a key performer on the pitch.

This site revealed last week that Rangers and Leeds United are keeping close tabs on Moreno, 21, with a view to a summer move.

The wide forward current plays for America de Cali in the Colombian league, where he has two years remaining on his contract.

Moreno, who has been compared to Liverpool star Sadio Mane for his playing style, is valued in the region of £5million.

When asked by Football Insider if Moreno could prove to be a valuable addition to Steven Gerrard’s squad, Campbell said: “It sounds like it could be a really smart signing.

“They have gone down that route before and got a lot of bang for their buck in Morelos.

“Getting another guy in from Colombia could be great. He will be able to relate to Morelos and they will both speak the same language. They could really help each other off the field.

“I think it would be a masterstroke signing in all honesty.

“Of course he has to have quality as well. He has to be able to add to the fantastic squad Steven Gerrard already has up there. If Rangers manage to get that one over the line, I am sure he will do just that.”
