Campbell salutes Arsenal as Guendouzi transfer details fully revealed

Kevin Campbell has applauded Arsenal for deciding to cash in on Matteo Guendouzi.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker claimed the 22-year-old “had a problem” with Mikel Arteta and needed to be moved on this summer.

Arsenal confirmed on Tuesday that the centre-midfielder has joined Marseille on loan for the 2021-22 campaign.

As revealed by Football Insider on 5th July, the loan deal includes an obligation-to-buy for £12million if Guendouzi plays a certain amount of games.

He has two years remaining on his contract at the Emirates.

Campbell claimed £12million is not a bad price for the France Under-21 international in the current financial climate.

“It does sound pretty cheap but when you think about the current financial situation in football it makes sense,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“A lot of teams don’t have the money. Only Premier League clubs have money right now. European clubs who have lots of money are few and far between.

“Guendouzi had a problem with the manager so you have to get him out of the club. His attitude wasn’t right.

“Yes, £12million is not ideal but you have got to get him off the books.”

Guendouzi made a total of 82 appearances for the Gunners.

He spend the entirety of last season on loan at Hertha Berlin where he contributed two goals and three assists in 24 appearances.
