Kevin Campbell has claimed it is a “no brainer” for Liverpool to get Alisson Becker tied down to a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton forward said the 28-year-old could continue to play at the top level for another 12 years.

Alisson has three years left to run on the six-year contract he penned upon his arrival at Anfield in July 2018.

According to the BBC (3 June), Liverpool’s hierarchy plan to open talks over a new deal with the Brazil international when he returns to Merseyside after the summer.

He made 42 appearances across all competitions last season and kept 15 clean sheets.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Alisson’s contract situation, Campbell said: “It’s a no brainer.

“Without a shadow of a doubt he is one of their most important players.

“Whatever you do, you do not want to leave it down to the wire because that gives all of the power to the player. Liverpool need to be proactive in this situation.

“To get Alisson tied down to a new contract would make great business sense. I know he still has three years left to run on his current deal but he has been magnificent. A new contract? No problem.

“I think he could have another 12 years in him. He looks after himself so I see no reason why he couldn’t play at the top level until he is 40.”
