Campbell thrilled by Tierney news emerging from Arsenal amid Man City 'interest'

Kevin Campbell is thrilled to hear Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has agreed a new five-year deal after ‘rumoured’ interest from Man City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker heaped praise on the 24-year-old who has been “exceptional” since joining from Celtic in August 2019.

According to The Athletic (18 June), Tierney is finalising a new five-year contract with the club in which he will earn in the region of £110,000-a-week.

It is reported that the new contract will be signed once his participation in this summer’s Euros is over.

Scotland were knocked out of this summer’s championships last night after a 3-1 loss against Croatia.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Tierney’s new deal, Campbell said:

“There was some rumours flying around about Pep Guardiola, apparently he was interested in him, so just to disperse any doubt we are going to secure him.

“It is the right thing to do. He will have come down to the club on decent money but I am sure he wasn’t on a great contract.

The way he has played, he deserves a new deal. He has been exceptional. He will be our left-back for a long time. It is good business from Arsenal.”

Tierney made 38 appearances in the 2020-21 campaign and finished with two goals and five assists to his name.

He has made 62 career appearances for the Gunners.
