Campbell 'will drive' Aouar to Arsenal after price tag revealed

Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to sign Houssem Aouar after Lyon reportedly lowered their price tag for the midfielder.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners striker heaped praise on the 23-year-old would he claimed would be a “top” addition to Mikel Arteta’s side.

The London club were chasing the signing of Aouar 12 months ago but their £30million-plus bid was rejected by Lyon.

According to Get French Football News (July 16th), the centre-midfielder, who has been the subject of enquiries from Arsenal and Spurs, could be available for as little as £17million this summer.

Lyon are looking to generate funds after they failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Edu should reignite the Gunners pursuit of Aouar, Campbell said:

“Listen, for that price I will drive over and pick him up myself.

“He was valued at £50million last summer so £17million? You are laughing.

“This is Covid for you. Their chairman wanted to keep him and was playing a game with Arsenal. Now, all of a sudden he has had to drop his price tag. Lyon, like a lot of French clubs, are struggling.

“I still think Aouar is a top player. He is a dynamic midfielder who I would bring in.

“There are going to be exits at Arsenal so we need quality options in the midfield. He certainly fits the bill.”
