Carragher reacts to Mignolet display after Liverpool draw against Man United

Jamie Carragher believes that Simon Mignolet has impressed for Liverpool all season after also putting in a good display against Manchester United on Sunday.
The 28-year-old shot stopper was placed back in goal at Old Trafford after missing the Reds’ last two fixtures in the cup competitions.
The Belgian was tested frequently against a United attack, which contained Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial.
However, he pulled off a number of saves and was unfortunate to be beaten in the 1-1 draw when a bouncing ball fell to Ibrahimovic in the Liverpool area late in the second half.
Carragher felt that Mignolet played well against United and that he has done all season, stating that he may have been hard done by when dropped for Loris Karius earlier in the campaign.

“This was the problem in the first half for Liverpool,” started Carragher speaking on Sky Sports 1 after the game.
“It’s different from the second half when they (Manchester United) were more direct. People were running through.
“You look at Mkhitaryan making that run across and it’s a great save from Mignolet, who I must say not just today, actually this season has played really well. He was probably harshly treated earlier in the season to have been left out for Karius.”
Carragher’s thoughts on Karius have been well published, with the German summer signing making a lot of high profile errors in his first appearances for the club.
However, he was brought in from Mainz for £4.7million to take over the number one jersey for the error-prone Mignolet.
But, the Belgium international delivered the perfect response to being dropped and his strong displays alongside Karius’ mistakes have seen him reclaim the number one spot.
The goalkeeper has conceded just four times in his six matches since returning to the team and he will be keen to help his side return to winning ways with a clean sheet against bottom of the league Swansea next Saturday.
