'Dangerous' - Cascarino urges 22-year-old not to sign for Arsenal
By Aramide Oladipo
Tony Cascarino has urged Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling not to sign for Arsenal this summer and he has branded the Gunners as a “sinking ship”.
This follows up from the story in the Mirror which reported that City were planning to involve the 22-year-old in a part-exchange deal to sign Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez before the end of the transfer window.
Sterling has enjoyed a fine start to the Premier League season, scoring two goals in his last two matches including a last-gasp winner against Bournemouth last Saturday in a 2-1 victory.
The winger’s recent performances have earned him a call-up to the England national squad to face Malta and Slovakia in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers next week.
Writing in his column for the Times, Cascarino believes that Sterling will not progress should he complete a move to the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal are a club on a downward spiral.

“Manchester City are prepared to let Raheem Sterling leave for Arsenal but the England forward should be very wary of joining a sinking ship,” he wrote
“That would be a very dangerous move for Sterling. The list of players who have failed to fulfil their potential at the Emirates Stadium is too long.
“Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calum Chambers and Carl Jenkinson have disappointed to varying degrees despite all making their international debuts by the age of 20.
“It would be a particularly bad time for Sterling to join Arsenal because the club is at risk of falling away significantly.
“By dropping out of the Champions League, they are not successful enough to entice the really top players, while Wenger is no longer a big draw for transfer targets.”
The Gunners have endured a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign, suffering two defeats in their opening three matches including an embarrassing 4-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool last Sunday.
With the club currently in 16th place in the league table, Arsenal could potentially try and sign more players before the transfer window shuts on Thursday night at 11pm.
