Celtic 24-year-old star major doubt for Old Firm clash

By Matt Farr

Celtic could be without star midfielder Tom Rogic for their upcoming Old Firm derby clash with Rangers on Saturday.

Rogic has been out with an ankle injury, and missed Celtic’s last two games, while, according to the Daily Record, he is also set to miss the encounter with Ross County on Wednesday.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is currently sweating over the fitness of Rogic, who has been in scintillating form for his side this season, ahead of such a crucial game with major rivals Rangers.

The 24-year-old midfielder has contributed 10 goals and five assists from 27 appearances in all competitions this term, and appeared in the two previous victories over Rangers this season.

Celtic beat Rangers 5-1 on home soil in the Scottish Premiership back on October 9, before winning 1-0 away at Ibrox in the Scottish League Cup later that month.

The Hoops are widely expected to win for a third time on Saturday, having gone the entire league campaign unbeaten so far. They currently hold a 14 point lead over Rangers at the top of the table, but both sides will be confident of taking the spoils.

Brendan Rodgers admitted that it would be fantastic to have Rogic back to face Rangers, but that he would not be taking any risks regarding his fitness.

He told the Daily Record: “Tom won’t be available for Wednesday, but we’ll look forward towards the weekend.

“If it is a game we think he can play in, he will. But if not, there is no drama, no problem. It’s about the team and someone else can step in and become a hero.”

In other Celtic news, the Hoops have been ranked above Rangers in the 30 biggest clubs in Britain.
