Christie will soon sign 'big new deal' after confirmed Celtic news - pundit

It is “only a matter of time” until Ryan Christie signs a bumper new contract at Celtic.

So says ex-Premier League hitman Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old Hoops midfielder.

As per the Scotsman on 8 August, Ange Postecoglou claimed he would “love” to see Christie remain at Celtic but that he is the “master of his future”.

The Scottish Sun reported the same day that Celtic have held fresh talks with Christie but are yet to table a formal offer.

The Scotland international, whose contract expires in January 2022, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

But Agbonlahor predicts that the former Inverness man will pen new terms imminently.

“They want him to stay and I think he will stay eventually,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“I think he’s just waiting for that big new deal. When he’s putting in performances like he did last weekend, I think it’s only a matter of time.

“It’s positive times for Celtic after recent results. Things might be starting to look a little bit on the up.

With Rangers losing their last couple of games, it shows that if they get their act together they’ve got a good chance of making a much closer title race.

Christie registered three assists as Celtic thumped Dundee 6-0 last Saturday.

He was taken off with 25 minutes remaining in the Hoops’ 3-0 win over FK Jablonec in Europa League qualifying yesterday.
