Celtic have agreed terms with forward Mohamed Elyounoussi after he rejected two offers from Serie A clubs, Football Insider can reveal.
The Hoops announced last night they have signed the Norwegian winger, 25, on a season-long loan as their late blizzard of transfer activity intensified.
A source with knowledge of Elyounoussi’s situation has told Football Insider that the player made up his mind to move to Parkhead despite receiving loan offers from two sides in the Italian top flight, one of which was Udinese.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Celtic were in the market for a wide forward amid doubts over the future of Scott Sinclair beyond Monday’s transfer cut-off.
They made a move for Elyounoussi after indications from Southampton they were willing to listen to offers for him before the main European windows shut.
The 24-times Norway international has not made the Saints matchday squad for their opening three Premier League matches this season after he had a difficult debut campaign following his £16.2million arrival last summer.
Elyounoussi failed to score or assist in 19 matches for the club, which was a far cry from his sustained success at former clubs Basel and Molde in Switzerland and Norway respectively.
In the 2017-18 season, the left winger scored 13 goals and supplied 17 assists from 44 matches in all competitions.
