Celtic and Rangers tipped to sign bulked-up Tottenham sensation Markanday on one condition - pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Tottenham starlet Dilan Markanday would get more game time at Celtic than Rangers if he completed a January loan move.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the opportunity to play European football could see either Glasgow side beat the likes of West Brom, Bournemouth and QPR to the winger’s capture.
As reported by the Evening Standard last week (1 December), Celtic and Rangers have joined the hunt to sign the 20-year-old either on a temporary or permanent basis.
With the youngster’s contract expiring next summer, Spurs reportedly want him to sign a new deal before sanctioning a loan move.
Tottenham insider John Wenham told Football Insider last month (27 November) there are a “queue of clubs” who want Markanday, who has bulked-up physically since the summer and has a new striker’s role for the youth team.
Hutton suggested game time would be the determining factor.

“The fact they’re in Europe, it will boil down how much playing time is he going to get,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“If he’s going to come up to Rangers, maybe sit on the bench and be a bit-part player, that’s not ideal. If he’s going to go to Celtic and play more minutes, it’s all about the player’s development.
“His plan is to come up, do well, play games to go back and be a Tottenham Hotspur player. It’s whatever’s going to suit him the best game-wise. That will be the team that he fits.
“If it’s a Championship team that is close to London, where he’s going to play week in, week out, that is better for his development.
“Better than maybe playing the odd European game for Rangers and Celtic and sitting on the bench. It’s all really going to depend on game time.”
Markanday made his Spurs debut in the 1-0 defeat to Vitesse Arnhem earlier this season.
Rangers have qualified for the Europa League knock-out play-off stage, while Celtic will drop into the Europa Conference League play-off round.
