Celtic fans must be prepared for Rangers to dominate Scotland for years to come, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Gers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Parkhead faithful would have to be patient ahead of a major shakeup both on and off the pitch.
The Hoops are in the hunt for a new manager following Neil Lennon’s resignation, while significant changes are expected in the boardroom.
There is also likely to be an exodus of players, with the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Kristoffer Ajer heading into the final 12 months of their contracts.
Hutton has suggested there could be as few as five regular starters for a new manager to build around this summer.
As a result, he suggested Celtic fans may have to watch their Glasgow rivals reign over Scotland for years.
Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “I was just trying to think through the team. Who would you build around? There’s probably only five names.
“When you think of the players that want to leave, the loan players who are to go back… It’s a huge job for the next person coming in.
“They’re really looking to start from zero, from fresh, which I totally understand.
“The thing with that is, and it’s difficult in Scotland, fans have to be patient. This isn’t a quick turnaround. This isn’t going to be fixed in the summer. This is going to take time.
“It’s whether they can deal with Rangers. They are a juggernaut right now, they’re running away with it. Can they deal with that for a few years to let the new team bed in their new squad?”
