Celtic: Benjamin Nygren wants Premier League move as Celtic to consider ‘big-money’ offer

Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren has got his heart set on a move to the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

The Swede is understood to view a move to the English top flight as the natural next step for his career, and teams are already queuing up to offer that move to him this summer.

He has drastically enhanced his reputation within the game during his debut campaign in Scotland, and sources say that he is ready to test himself at the highest level.

The Bhoys are under “no pressure” to sell the 24-year-old this summer with their financial situation steady, but it is understood that they will still consider a sale if a “big-money offer” is put on the table.

Celtic are set for an overhaul in their squad ahead of next season, but they are still keen to ensure that Nygren remains in their clutches if possible.

Keith Wyness expects Benjamin Nygren ‘success story’ to end soon

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider back in March that he expects Nygren to leave Celtic this summer, as he feels it is simply too big an ask for the Glasgow giants to keep hold of him.

The Scottish businessman acknowledged that his signing from Nordsjaelland last summer has been a major “success story” for the club, but he was clear that he feels it will soon draw to a close.

Nygren’s 2025-26 Scottish Premiership stats compared to the rest of the Celtic squad, as per Fotmob.

Nygren has notched 19 goals and eight assists from midfield in all competitions, and Wyness believes that will already be enough to earn him a switch to a top European league, or even the Premier League.

Celtic’s financial situation is providing an element of hope for them, combined with the fact that Nygren is currently under contract until the summer of 2029.

A sale will only happen on their terms, but if it does, it will net a huge profit for them, given that they splashed out just £2million to bring him in last summer.

Martin O’Neill spotted watching latest Celtic midfield target

Football Insider revealed last week that Celtic interim boss Martin O’Neill watched Alfie Devine in action for Preston during their recent clash with QPR.

The Tottenham starlet has emerged as a summer transfer target for the Hoops in recent weeks, and O’Neill was in the stands watching the midfielder during his loan stint at Preston.

There is already an acceptance at Parkhead that it could be difficult to strike a deal for the 21-year-old this summer, due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of his parent club.

Tottenham are battling against relegation in the Premier League, and it is expected that several of their brightest young talents could be called upon to become genuine first-teamers if they drop into the Championship.

Nevertheless, Celtic appear set to continue doing their due diligence on Devine, to ensure that they are ready to pounce if he becomes available this summer.
