Postecoglou working 'very hard' to get Edouard deal done amid Celtic update today - Whelan

Ange Postecgolou will be “working very hard behind the scenes” to get Odsonne Edouard out the door at Celtic.

So says ex-Scottish Premiership forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the wantaway 23-year-old striker.

This site revealed on 5th August that Brighton are in talks to sign the Frenchman and have entered discussions with his representatives and the latest from a club source today is that talks are ongoing.

The Seagulls are keen to get a deal over the line before the Premier League season gets underway on 14th August.

Edouard, who is out of contract next summer, has featured heavily in the opening throes of Celtic’s 2021-22 campaign.

But Whelan claims the new manager will be keen to get him out as quickly as possible so he can swoop for a replacement.

“You want players either committed or out of the door,” he told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“That way, you know where you stand. Then you’ll have money to use again to go and strengthen.

“Postecoglou knows he needs to strengthen the squad and the club overall.

“If he does leave, you know exactly where you have to strengthen straight away, which is that forward line.

“He’ll be working very hard behind the scenes to try and get this deal done. You’ve got to have a replacement ready to come in straight away.

“You can’t be getting to the end of the transfer window and not have someone ready to go.”

Edouard signed for Celtic for £9million in June 2018.

He has scored 84 times in 173 appearances for the club.
