Celtic could seal 'great' Tanganga signing after Gold update - Campbell

Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga “would be a great” signing for Celtic this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old’s physique and versatility could be an asset to a Hoops side who are struggling to defend set pieces.

Celtic are in the market for defensive reinforcements after conceding five goals in their first three games of the 2021-22 campaign.

According to Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold (29th July), Galatasaray have made a bid to sign Tanganga on loan from Tottenham for the season.

However, it is said Spurs would prefer the England Under-21 international to join a UK-based club.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Ange Postecoglou’s side should make a move for the defender who can play at full-back or centre-half, Campbell said:

“Tanganga will be a great Celtic signing given their problems at the back.

“The only thing is, he is a bit inexperienced. Is it better to go for experience or for a talented youngster?

“It would be a risk if they went for Tanganga but there is not doubting his talent. He is big, strong and versatile so he fits the bill in that sense but that might not be enough to cope with the pressures of Celtic.

“Experience didn’t work with Shane Duffy last season though so perhaps they will go the other way now.”

In other news, there is a major update on Brighton’s move to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard next week.
