Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele has handed in a transfer request amid interest from Rangers and Celtic, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 24-year-old attacker has been attracting the interest of a the Scottish giants and Premier League sides following some dazzling displays in League One.
An industry source has told Football Insider that Dembele has now tried to push for an exit this month by handing in a formal request to leave Peterborough.
This comes after the League One club’s director of football Barry Fry revealed Rangers are interested in Dembele.
His younger brother Karamoko is on the books at Celtic but it’s claimed scouts from Steven Gerrard’s side have been to watch the 24-year-old on two occasions.
Fry told Peterborough Telegraph : “Rangers have watched Siriki twice, as have the Scottish national side. Newcastle manager Steve Bruce watched him at Crewe when he didn’t play well.”
As revealed by Football Insider last November, Celtic, Wolves, Fulham and Crystal Palace are also keeping tabs on Dembele.
He could be the latest in a long line of dazzling forwards to shine for Peterborough before being lured away for a massive fee.
The likes of Ivan Toney, Britt Britt Assombalonga, Jack Marriott and Dwight Gayle are among those who have helped earn the third-tier club more than £40million of transfer fees in recent years.
Dembele is regarded as one of the most exciting players in the Football League.
The Peterborough talent was a standout performer for the Posh during the second half of last season and built up a formidable partnership with their former striker Ivan Toney in attack.
A versatile winger who can operate on either flank, he has carried that form into the new campaign with five goals and five assists from 17 League One appearances.
Dembele joined the League One side from Grimsby Town back in 2018 and has gone on to play a total of 96 times for the club, with 18 goals and 21 assists to his name.
