Celtic: George Campbell deal has never been more needed as Liam Scales issues shown again vs Hibernian
Celtic should be doing everything in their power to secure a deal for West Brom centre-back George Campbell after they won 2-1 away at Hibernian on Saturday.
The Bhoys survived a scare to emerge victorious in Edinburgh, as they eventually found a winner against their 10-man opponents.
David Gray’s side didn’t pose much resistance during the game, but the Bhoys’ backline still looked capable of making problems of its own accord throughout the 90 minutes.
Liam Scales struggled up against Owen Elding as Hibs’ focal point, and his performance should have provided the Celtic recruitment team with all the evidence they need to know that he should be replaced this summer.
The 27-year-old only recently signed a new deal at Parkhead, but Celtic should still be targeting Campbell to try and take his place in the team.

The Celtic backline enjoyed a relatively quiet afternoon at Easter Road, as Jamie McGrath’s red card turned the game into something of an attack versus defence exercise.
However, Scales still found himself exposed on a few occasions, and he struggled to get the better of the Hibs attackers when the ball was there to be won.

The Irishman failed to win any of his four aerial duels during the game, and his inability to deal with the hosts’ physicality at the top of the pitch could easily have led to far greater issues had they had 11 men in the action.
Scales’ performances have prompted plenty of criticism this season, and with CeltsAreHere revealing the Bhoys’ interest in Campbell, that should be a deal that the Bhoys are looking to do.
It has become increasingly clear in recent weeks that Scales cannot remain a first-choice option at the back if Celtic are to improve as a side next term.
Campbell has impressed during his first season in England, and the potential to step up to European level with Celtic may be a jump that he is ready to make.
The links for him to move to Celtic Park are certainly timely after Scales’ latest display, which has proved yet again that a new starting centre-back is definitely needed.
Celtic escape amid huge refereeing blunder
Celtic fought hard for their victory on Sunday, as Kelechi Iheanacho netted a late winner to finally see the Bhoys past their 10-man opposition.
The Nigerian’s goal saw them escape from the game with a crucial three points, after it had looked as though a refereeing blunder was going to save a point for the hosts.
Joe Newell appeared to control the ball with his arm before turning home the equaliser for Hibs on the stroke of half-time, but referee David Dickinson and then VAR official Don Robertson both saw no issue and awarded the goal.
It was an incident that promises to dominate discussions in the coming days, but it would have been an even bigger talking point had it proved to be the difference between a win or a draw for Celtic.
