Celtic handed 'massive boost' by UEFA after confirmed news - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed Celtic have been handed “a massive boost” after Nabil Fekir’s three-match suspension was confirmed by UEFA.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker suggested the news would help Ange Postecoglou’s side qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

As reported by Spanish outlet AS (15th November), UEFA have confirmed that Nabil Fekir will miss his Real Betis’ next 3 European fixtures.

It comes after the playmaker was sent off in a group-game clash with Bayer Leverkusen on November 4th.

The suspension rules Fekir out of Betis’ trip to Celtic Park on December 9th – a game which could be pivotal as only one point separates the two sides in Group G.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the news, Campbell said: “It’s a massive, massive boost for Celtic.

“Nabil Fekir is one of those players who plays on the edge. I’ve watched a lot of him over the past couple of seasons and he has unbelievable ability. He’s been one of the top performers in La Liga.

“It’s a blow for Betis and advantage Celtic really because Fekir can take a game away from you.

“It is definitely advantage Celtic. They will be confident that they can secure qualification.”

As quoted by Sevilla ABC, Real Betis chairman Angel Haro was left fuming with UEFA’s decision.

He said: “If he was playing for another team in La Liga he would have different treatment [from UEFA].”
