Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has been "disappointed" by James McCarthy since he arrived at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Ange Postecoglou's side won't get a lot of money for the 31-year-old if they decide to sell him.

But the Glasgow giants face a major battle to shift the midfielder who signed a four-year contract in 2021 worth around £20,000-a-week.

McAvennie insisted the Green and Whites will struggle to secure a decent fee for the former Ireland international.

They will not get a lot I do not think," he told Football Insider.

"I am disappointed because he came in and was the kind of player I thought we needed. He is the kind of player I thought would have thrived, I thought he was wonderful.

"I do not know what has happened to him. He came in on a long-term contract so it will need to be a good move. . To get that kind of money and get ten minutes here and there, it is not ideal for him or the club.

"Do you want to just keep taking money off the club and not doing anything?"

McCarthy has made just five appearances for the Parkhead club across all competitions this season.

The centre-mid has played a total of 62 minutes in those outings.
