Celtic idol makes 'incredible' Reo Hatate claim after Ange Postecoglou reveal
Frank McAvennie has tipped Reo Hatate to be the “star player” for Celtic this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops striker was impressed by the 24-year-old “incredible” performance in the Scottish Premiership opener against Aberdeen.
Hatate played 66 minutes of Celtic’s 2-0 win at Parkhead on Sunday (31 July).
Speaking to club media post-match (31 July), Ange Postecoglou said the Japan international was “a bit sore” after a few heavy challenges and knocks during the game.
The midfielder was withdrawn in the second half following a collision which left him clutching his jaw.
The Hoops boss did not reveal whether there were any concerns over Hatate’s availability for their upcoming game against Ross County on Saturday (6 August).

When asked by Football Insider correspondent Charlotte Cohen for his thoughts on Hatate’s performance at Celtic Park, McAvennie said: “I’m a big fan of Hatate.
“I think he will be the star player this season. I think he is going to be awesome, I really do.
“Some of his footwork and some of his link up with [Matt] O’Riley, [Callum] McGregor and Jota was incredible yesterday. It was good to watch.
“That’s what the manager wants. He’s so intense going forward.“
Hatate contributed four goals and three assists in 21 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign.
He joined the Bhoys in January and put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year contract.
