Celtic in hunt for Bundesliga defender, club chief green lights transfer - report
Celtic have expressed an interest in signing RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper, according to a report.
German magazine Kicker claims on their website that the 32-year-old central defender is eager to quit Leipzig and that has led the Hoops to join the hunt for the Bundesliga ace.
Compper has only featured three times across all competitions for the Bundesliga side this season, and the report claims that Leipzig’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick has given the one-time Germany international the green light to leave in January to join a team where he will be featured more prominently.
Compper’s most recent game was in the 2-2 draw with Mainz, where he played 45 minutes, and he featured for a grand total of 19 minutes in Leipzig’s Champions League campaign.
Ironically Leipzig are a potential opponent for the Bhoys in the Europa League last 32 and the draw for that is set to take place on Monday.

Despite Celtic’s long unbeaten run in domestic competition, their problems in defence have been there for all to see, particularly in the Champions League, where the Hoops conceded 18 goals in six games. The problems have started to creep into league games too, with Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata all over the place in the 2-2 draw with Hibs, and both players seem to have regressed badly this season overall. If the Hoops want to make any impression in the Europa League, then they really could do with signing an experienced defender, and Compper certainly fits the bill.
