Celtic line up move for Dutch player of the season - report

By Tom Blackburn

Celtic are interested in signing Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dorus de Vries, according to a report.

The Daily Record stated on Monday that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers wanted to sign Michael Vorm, who he knows well from their time together at Swansea.

The Scottish Sun now claim that Celtic are eyeing a move for de Vries, who has been at Forest since 2013 and was voted the club’s Player of the Season in 2015-16.

The 35-year-old Dutch international has one year left on the contract he signed in February 2015.

He started their first game of the season against Burton last weekend, but had to be replaced after 19 minutes when he picked up an ankle knock and the Nottingham Post report he is still out injured.

He played all bar one of their Championship matches last season as the club finished a disappointing 16th, and made three further appearances in cup competitions.

The current number one at Celtic is Craig Gordon, who has held down the number one spot since joining the club after a two year break from football in 2014.

Gordon left Sunderland in 2012 and elected to take a break following a knee injury, but with that behind him joined up with the Hoops and has won two consecutive Scottish titles.

Having won the Scottish Premiership last season, Celtic are now bidding for their six straight title but face stiff competition with Rangers returning to the top flight.

Celtic have made three senior signings this summer in Moussa Dembele and Kolo Toure and Scott Sinclair.

Sinclair arrived from Aston Villa on Sunday morning on a four-year deal, and scored the winner in Celtics league opener against Hearts on the same day.

In other Celtic transfer news, they are braced for a £6million defender move.
