Celtic: Luis Palma’s future at Parkhead becomes clear after latest loan exploits

Celtic must be considering revising their plans to sell Luis Palma this summer as his strong form continues while on loan at Lech Poznan.

Palma scored the ninth goal of his season-long spell at Poznan over the weekend to help them to a 2-1 win over Pogon Szczecin.

They remain three points clear at the top of the Ekstraklasa with five games to play as the winger aims to write himself into club folklore for helping deliver their first back-to-back title triumph since 1992.

Palma is widely expected to leave Parkhead once again this summer when his spell in Poland is over, with Poznan retaining a £3.5million option to buy in the loan deal.

Celtic’s transfer plans are set to be dictated by who they appoint as their next manager, but a second chance for the Honduran international should be increasingly tough to snub as he shines out on loan.

Luis Palma’s form should mean he is considered for Celtic return this summer

Palma registered a goal and an assist off the bench for Poznan to fire them to a 3-3 draw against GKS Katowice on 12 April.

He was reinstated to the starting lineup for their trip to Szczecin on Saturday, and repaid the faith shown in him by scoring their second goal in their 2-1 win.

The well-taken strike was his 18th goal contribution in 42 games for Poznan this season, and it is no wonder that they want to sign him permanently in the summer.

They are set to face competition for Palma’s signature, however, with recent reports claiming that La Liga side Sevilla are also lining up a summer move.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that key man Benjamin Nygren wants to move to the Premier League this summer, so Celtic may need numerous players to replicate his fine goalscoring form next season.

There has, however, been surprisingly little talk of Palma being an option in the Hoops’ squad in the summer, even though Sevilla’s interest means that Poznan’s option to buy is unlikely to be taken up.

It seems bizarre that he is attracting suitors from La Liga and impressing away from Parkhead, yet looks to have no future at Celtic.

If Palma continues to make waves in Poland and fire Poznan to the title, then surely the Hoops’ board have to consider giving him another chance to prove himself in the Premiership.

Palma is open to a Celtic return

It is not as if Palma has closed the door on Celtic and his own thoughts are what stand in the way of a potential return to the Glasgow giants.

The 26-year-old made it abundantly clear that he would welcome another chance at Parkhead when speaking to Honduran media earlier this month.

He said: “I had a great time at Celtic, I really enjoyed it. I’d like a second chance. I’m still under contract with them, I’m still part of the club, and if they say I need to come back, I’ll do my very best.

“My dream is to return to a top-flight league. For me, the Scottish league was a top-flight league. I got to play in the Champions League, which is what every player wants to do – that dream hasn’t died yet.

The more he continues to impress at Poznan, then the more obvious it seems for Celtic to bring him back into the fold in the summer, regardless of who the new manager is.
