Paddy Kenny claims Celtic could have already privately appointed their manager and have him ‘ready to go’ as soon as the Scottish Premiership season finishes.
The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, also understands Celtic fans’ frustration with Eddie Howe.
On Friday, Celtic provided their supporters with an update on the club’s hunt for a new manager.
In a statement, they said, “the Club is working hard to complete the appointment of the new Celtic Manager.”
As revealed by Football Insider last month, the door is open for Celtic to appoint Howe after Crystal Palace made Sean Dyche their number one choice to replace Roy Hodgson.
This comes after the former Bournemouth boss had verbally agreed to take over at Celtic but ended up having second thoughts.
Kenny claims Celtic could be working behind the scenes on appointing a new boss and understands some fans’ frustrations with Howe’s change of heart.
“They could already have someone appointed and ready to go in,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“I don’t know if Howe is still in for it. It’s one of those where they might want to get this season out of the way first and start afresh before making an announcement.
“You can see why the fans are unhappy if they think Howe is using the club as a bargaining chip.
“But if that’s their man and they want him that much then you’ve got to trust the owners and take him on board.
“But I wouldn’t be happy if I was a fan and I thought Howe was using the club as leverage.”
John Kennedy has been in charge of the first team since Neil Lennon resigned in February.
The Hoops are next in action against St Johnstone on Wednesday.
