Celtic nailed on to seal sensational £40m summer transfer - Burley

By Harry Sykes

Craig Burley has claimed it is “nailed on” that Moussa Dembele will complete a sensational summer transfer to Chelsea.

Celtic legend Burnley revealed that sources in Scotland had told him that the Premier League leaders are in pole position to land the prolific striker in a deal of “around £40million”

Dembele has had a stunning impact at Parkhead since joining last summer for a compensation fee of just £300,000 after his contract at Fulham had expired.

The France Under-21 international scored his 27th goal of the season in Celtic’s win against Motherwell at the weekend and has ousted Leigh Griffiths as the first choice spearhead in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Chelsea were strongly linked with a swoop for Dembele in the final days of the January window and rumours about a summer deal have now intensified.

Ex-Scotland international Burley, who played for Celtic and Chelsea during a glittering career, is convinced the 20-year-old will prove to be only a one-season wonder in Scotland.

Speaking as a pundit on ESPN, Burley said: “Scottish football is quite embarrassing at the moment in terms of the standard but he is head and shoulders [above the rest].

“He’s a good player and is young. Chelsea, I’m hearing, are the favourites. Talking to one or two guys I know back in Scotland, they said he is pretty much nailed on to go to Chelsea and possibly for around £40m.”

European powerhouses Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as the Premier League elite have been linked with moves for Dembele in recent months.

The striker has not only racked up the goals but has also delivered in the biggest matches, with his personal highlights including an Old Firm hat-trick and a sensational double against Manchester City in the Champions League.

In other Celtic news, Dembele’s agent has explained why he joined the Scottish giants in the first place.
