Celtic may have the chance to bring Kieron Bowie back to the Scottish Premiership in the summer transfer window.

The Bhoys were interested in a move for the 23-year-old in January but he ultimately signed for Serie A side Hellas Verona, joining from Hibernian in a deal worth around £6million.

Despite a strong start there, the Scotland international could do nothing to prevent relegation, which was confirmed at the start of the month.

The Scottish Premiership winners will know more about their summer targets once a new permanent manager is appointed, but a striker is likely to be among them.

Celtic transfer chiefs are yet to make decisions on Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu, who arrived with options to buy in their loan deals, but neither has left a lasting impression.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in January that Celtic and Rangers were expected to move for Bowie, but bids did not materialise.

The striker scored eight goals in 22 Scottish Premiership games and was emerging among the most talented young strikers in the league.

Hellas Verona’s move came at the end of the window, with Bowie following in the footsteps of several Scots to have moved to Italy, including Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Che Adams and several others.

And since arriving in Verona, the 23-year-old has continued to prove his ability on the grandest stage.

His first goal came against Bologna in March, but it is across the last five games that the Scot has well and truly found his feet.

Goals against Torino, Juventus and Serie A champions Inter Milan have stunned onlookers, with Steve Clarke surely looking on as he decides his Scotland World Cup squad.

Bowie’s latest came at San Siro on Sunday, shrugging off the challenge of Carlos Augusto before finishing into the far corner and past Raffaele Di Gennaro in stoppage time to earn Hellas Verona a 1-1 draw.

Bowie uncertain on future as Celtic offered opportunity

Bowie signed a four-and-a-half-year contract when he arrived at Hellas Verona in January, but relegation has provided uncertainty over his future.

The likes of Celtic will undoubtedly be interested in the Scot if he is to be on the move once more, with the fee likely to be in a similar ballpark to the £6m it took the Italian club to sign him.

“I’m disappointed with how things went, but I gave it my all and I’m happy to have helped the team,” Bowie said after scoring on Sunday.

“In football, there aren’t any stadiums like the San Siro or many others in Serie A. I don’t know what will happen (this summer), but I have a four-year contract.

“The club will decide. Serie B? I haven’t thought about it yet, honestly. Let’s focus on Roma. I know it’s difficult to go from Serie A to Serie B.”
