Brendan Rodgers is plotting a summer swoop for Liverpool talisman Lucas Leiva, according to a report.
The Daily Record claim Celtic are aware of Lucas’ situation at Anfield, where he is out of contract in the summer and available on a free transfer.
It is said that Rodgers is weighing up whether pursue a concrete move for the versatile Brazilian, who can play in central midfield or drop back into defence.
The Daily Record report that Celtic face competition from newly-promoted Brighton for the signature of Lucas as they aim to snap up proven Premier League talent.
Lucas, 30, is ready to quit Liverpool this summer but will first hold talks with manager Jurgen Klopp about his future.
The 22-times Brazil international is an iconic figure at Anfield, where he has recently celebrated 10 years at the club he joined from Gremio.
Despite his reduced status, he has still made 30 appearances this season, amounting to 1,722 minutes spread across all competitions.
Rodgers managed Lucas during his time at Liverpool and knows the player inside out, as well as how his experience could be vital during Celtic’s Champions League campaign next season.
