Celtic are within days of sealing a £300,000 deal for St Mirren wonderkid Lewis Morgan, who Rangers were also keen on according to a report.

The Herald reports that the deal for the midfielder is close to be finalised but Morgan will be staying with St Mirren until the end of the season.

The same report states that Rangers were keen on Morgan but the Championship player believes Brendan Rodgers is the manager who can “further his career.”

Morgan has made 23 appearances across all competitions for St Mirren this season, scoring 10 goals and registering eight assists.

The midfielder has featured in all of St Mirren’s Championship games this season, as they sit top of the table.

Football Insider Verdict

This is a huge coup for Rodgers and Celtic to be able sign one of the most highly-rated players in the Championship. It’s a bonus for Rodgers that the player has opted to go to the Hoops due to his presence. The Bhoys being able to sign such a promising talent ahead of their rivals Rangers will also be a nice boost for fans. It is key that Celtic continue to improve their team despite leading the way in the league and their recent unbeaten run. Morgan is the perfect example of a signing that will benefit Celtic in the future.
