Celtic are close to completing the signing of on-loan striker Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim on their transfer blog (10.36am) that the talented young striker could become Brendan Rodger’s first signing of the summer at a bargain price.
The fee mentioned is just £5million plus add-ons, which is significantly less than the £10million that was reported by The Scottish Sun.
Football Insider verdict:
This would represent a serious bargain for Celtic. The 20-year-old striker has the world at his feet and there were glimpses last season of just how good he can be. The two goals and assist he got in the 5-0 Old Firm demolition job showed that he’s got the power and the poise to take the Premiership by storm. John Hartson had previously said that he thought Celtic would sign Edouard and that “he wouldn’t come cheap”, with the fee mentioned smashing the Celtic transfer record. However, it looks like that has been slashed in half, although we don’t know the details of the add-ons. Irrespective, £5million in today’s market for a striker of Edouard’s quality represents a massive bit of business for the Hoops. He could easily go onto rival Moussa Dembele if he’s given a clear run of games. With Steven Gerrard buying at Rangers, it looks like both Old Firm clubs will be improving significantly, and that could create the new top tier in the Premiership, with Aberdeen and Hibs trailing behind next season.
