Celtic are aiming to blow Rangers away in the hunt for Dunfermline Athletic hotshot Kevin Nisbet, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops have set their sights on the front man after catching the eye of their scouts with his performances for the Scottish Championship side.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club are monitoring Nibet's situation and will continue to do so into the new year.

New Ibrox director of football Ross Wilson has revealed the club are not just planning for January and next summer, but also the January and the summer of 2021.

Celtic have a similar long-term recruitment strategy and now both of the Glasgow giants are set to run regular checks on Nisbet.

The 22-year-old has had an outstanding start to the season for Dunfermline, scoring 11 goals in 19 matches, including four in their last three fixtures.

Nisbet is regarded not just as a goalscorer but also an all-round forward capable of thriving in the Scottish Premiership.

Other clubs in the top flight are also keeping tabs on the Partick Thistle academy product.

He has reignited his career after being released by Partick in the summer of 2018 following their relegation to the Championship.

Nisbet down a division to join Raith Rovers and banged in 34 goals from 46 matches in all competitions last season as they finished third in the league.

He moved back up a division to Dunfermline over the summer and they are sixth in the Championship table after 13 matches of the campaign, a long way off the promotion chasers Dundee United and Ayr United.
