Kenny salutes Celtic as three potential signings confirmed via Sky Sports

Ange Postecoglou is correct to cast his net wide when it comes to signing a new right-back at Celtic.

So says ex-Premier League shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops boss’s recent remarks.

Speaking to Sky Sports on 23rd July, Postecoglou admitted right-back is a “key area” and he has “three plan As” in terms of transfers in the position.

Anthony Ralston is currently the only right-back on the books after Jonjoe Kenny returned to Everton in May following his six-month loan stretch.

And Kenny claims that Celtic are right to have a number of insurance options if a deal for their first choice, whoever that may be, falls through.

“I think you have to hedge your bets,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“If there are Premier League clubs interested in these players then, with no disrespect to Celtic, I can’t see them getting first dibs.

“So it makes sense to have three options in each area. You’ve always got to have a plan A, B and C. That’s exactly what they need.

“It’s handy just in case one or two of them don’t come off. At least you’ve then got something and you’re not leaving yourself short at the start of the season.”

The likes of Sheffield United’s Geroge Baldock and more recently Man City’s Yan Couto, both right-backs, have been linked with a Parkhead switch.

Celtic have signed Kyogo Furhashi, Carl Starfelt, Liel Abada, Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide so far this summer.
