Celtic sensation Odsonne Edouard may be the key to Leeds United prising Ben White from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.
Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier today that Brighton have knocked back a third offer from Leeds for their former loan star of £30million.
This comes on the back of the Seagulls rejecting previous bids from the Yorkshire giants for the 22-year-old of £18.5m and £22m.
It remains to be seen if Leeds will up their already massive bid for Leeds, which would make him comfortably their record signing.
Much will depend upon Brighton’s value of their centre-back and their plans for him, what White himself wants and the club’s other business.
Significantly, Graham Potter’s side have joined the multiple-club race for Edouard as they look to strengthen their forward line.
This site revealed last month the Scottish champions have slapped a new £40million price tag on their star player to ward off the many teams trying to sign him.
But he has yet to sign a new contract with Celtic and they are vulnerable to losing a player whose deal expires in two years.
Should Brighton make a concerted push for Edouard, they may well need to cash in on White to raise money.
Ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan is in no doubt that his former club are planning to blow a sizeable chunk of their summer kitty on White.
“He is the No1 priority target, there’s no doubt about that,” Whelan told Football Insider. “From what I’ve been told Leeds want him badly and no-one will be surprised about that after his brilliant form last season.
“Can we get him? I think we can, especially if he pushes hard for a move and Brighton aren’t going to make him first choice at the start of next season.”
White was an ever-present in Leeds’ title-winning campaign and even stepped in to play in midfield when Phillips was unavailable through injury or suspension.
