Leeds United have had a bid for Wigan Athletic rising star Sean McGurk rejected, Football Insider can reveal.
The Yorkshire giants have made a formal move for a second attacking youngster at the cash-strapped Lancashire outfit following their administration.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Leeds are trying to exploit Wigan’s situation by also sealing a deal for McGurk.
It is believed they have offered £30,000 for the 17-year-old winger but that has been knocked back.
The newly-promoted Premier League outfit took their summer signings up to four by simultaneously sealing deals for Gelhardt as well as a third consecutive season-long loan of Jack Harrison from Man City.
Leeds will pay Wigan an initial £1million plus add-ons for the England Under-18 international striker Gelhardt.
It remains to be seen whether they will return to the negotiating table with a fresh offer for McGurk.
However, the wonderkid has also attracted interest from Tottenham, which could force United to up their offer.
The teenager is a versatile youngster able to play in a variety of positions across the forward line.
He scored two goals in three games while playing as a right winger in the FA Youth Cup this season and scored nine goals in the first half of last season for Wigan’s age-group sides.
